Clinical Supervision in Wokingham

Clinical Supervision online

Professional Supervision Services

As a BACP registered supervisor, I offer professional supervision drawing from seven years of therapeutic experience. My supervision practice encompasses a range of therapeutic modalities, supporting newly qualified practitioners and experienced psychotherapists.

My integrative approach to supervision is informed by my work as a counsellor, incorporating interpersonal development, existential psychotherapy, and elements of CBT. I integrate the BACP's Ethical Framework and the Good Practice in Action guidance, ensuring supervision aligns with professional standards.

Experience and Approach

My supervision experience in private children's homes has developed my awareness of systemic processes and the broader context beyond the therapeutic relationship with the child or client. This perspective allows me to view supervisees as part of a network, considering individual and organisational dynamics. My role demands familiarity with relevant legislation, safeguarding procedures, and therapeutic provision requirements.

My supervision is underpinned by advanced training, including the British Psychological Society's Essential and Advanced Supervision Skills courses. The latter has particularly developed my ability to provide effective online and group supervision. While I prefer face-to-face supervision (because it allows for a richer connection and relationship-building), I deliver sessions online when necessary.

Theoretical Models and Supervisory Style

In supervision, I use various theoretical models, including (but not limited to):

  • The Seven-Eyed Supervision Model (Hawkins and Shohet)

  • Heron's Six Categories of Intervention

  • Proctor's Three Function Model

  • Resilience-based Clinical Supervision

My supervisory style encourages supervisees to bring their most pressing concerns, developing strategies to prioritise client work effectively.

Supervision offers a valuable opportunity for professional growth and ensuring best practice for clients. While client welfare is paramount, I also emphasise the importance of practitioner self-care and well-being throughout the supervisory process.

Feedback for Supervision

Rachel

Michael supervises my work with children and adolescents. He is highly knowledgeable about work in the therapeutic residential setting and understands the rewards and challenges of working with this client group. He is well respected by the wider team who also benefit from his ability to hold a reflective space.

Anais

I am an experienced psychotherapist with a background in the United States and England. I was fortunate to have Michael as my supervisor. His exceptional listening skills, which are essential for reflective supervision, and his ability to provide valuable and well-informed feedback greatly contributed to my professional development. Michael's unique skill in offering corrections without being patronising or condescending ensured that I felt respected as a professional. I couldn't have asked for a better supervisory experience. Thank you, Michael!!
